TIGERS HOLD ON FOR A TIE

DUNDEE HURRICANES 14 GLASGOW TIGERS 14

On another hot day at Dundee the Glasgow Tigers and the Dundee Hurricanes played out an end to end thriller that could have gone either way.

In the first quarter of this game both Defence’s held out their opponents and although the Hurricanes had the better offensive yardage penalty’s held them back. The quarter ended with a 12 yard interception by safety Jason Smith stopping one of Dundee’s long drives.

This gave the Tigers the ball at the start of the second quarter and QB Matt McCusker began some impressive passing with a 42 yard bomb to WR Dan Seltzer.

This kick started the Glasgow Offence and 9 plays later McCusker lobbed a 15 yarder to Paul Keys for the go-ahead score. The 2 point pass from McCusker to Bob Kalman was successful to make it 8-0 to the Tigers.

Dundee came right back and RB Mahamadou- Lamine Niakate had some excellent sweeps and dives to get into the Glasgow red zone. He finished the drive with a 6 yard run for a Touchdown. The Tigers Defence then stopped the conversion to leave them ahead 8-6.

On the Tigers next long drive ended with a short 6 yard McCusker pass to Bob Kalman.

This time the Dundee defence broke up the 2 point pass attempt to leave the score at 14-6 for the Tigers and that’s how it stayed till half time.

In the 3rd quarter Dundee came out fighting and a strong 50 yard drive ended with QB Bruce Thomson’s 33 yard pass to WR Fraser Thomson to make it 14-12.

On the 2 point conversion that man Mahamadou- Lamine Niakate rushed around the Tigers Defence to tie the game at 14-14.

The Glasgow Offence couldn’t get going in the 3rd quarter and had to rely on their Defence to make some excellent stands to stop Dundee.

Into the 4th quarter and both teams tried hard to get the winning score. Dundee again had the upper hand but their final drive ended when Glasgow cornerback Graham Whyte intercepted a pass in the end zone on 4th and 15.

So it ended a tie with both teams relishing the next encounter.

Tigers Head Coach Derek Taylor commented “We put a hell of a lot of effort into this game and I can see the improvement from last week, hopefully we can get a win soon.”
