CLAYMORES BLOW ADMIRALS OUT OF THE WATER - AGAIN
The
Claymores are on the verge of their second World Bowl final after
demolishing the Amsterdam Admirals 42-10 at the Olympic Stadium
In what was the highest score clocked
up by any NFLE team this season, the result puts Jim Criner's men
in clear second place on five wins, with the Admirals and Dragons
bringing up the rear in third place on 4-4.
The result now sets the scene for a
classic top of the table clash against Rhein Fire at
Hampden Park on Saturday, in what will be the Claymores final home
game of the season.
Depending on other results, the Claymores
could book their place at the Millennium World Bowl at Frankfurt
later this month, if they can reverse a defeat by the Fire in week
5.
Despite a convincing 28-9 victory over
the Dutch at Murrayfield in week one, the Claymores were gearing
up for a much tougher battle against Al Luginbills men, who got
their campaign back on track after their 41-7 demolition of reigning
champions, Frankfurt Galaxy the week before.
But the Dutch got off to the worst
possible start, after just a couple of plays in the first quarter,
when Jon Hesse intercepted Ron Powlus, taking the ball back to the
Admirals 5 yard line. Then on the next play, Kevin Daft gave the
open Scott Couper, his easiest TD of the season, with Rob Hart once
again on target with the extra point.
With just over five and half minutes
of the quarter remaining, Daft was on target again, when he fired
another TD pass to Donald Sellers.
And after Blaine McEllmurry intercepted
Powlus again, replacement quarterback, Marcus Crandell eventually
got his name on the score sheet when he scrambled home from ten
yards for another TD.
The Admirals finally managed to break
their duck, when Silvio Dileberto nailed a 42 yard field goal, but
the Scots gave the perfect reply on the kick off when Sulecio Sanford
powered back up the field for a 95 yard touchdown return.
The
game was all but over when Damon Gibson caught the Scots 5th touchdown
of the day, with Hart maintaining his 100% record with the extra
points giving the Scots a 35-3 half-time lead.
However the Admirals sunk even further
early in third quarter, when a 4 play 58 yard drive was complete
by Arron Stecker, who ran the ball home for another score. But the
Dutch were handed a faint glimmer of hope when Rico Clark intercepted
Daft to run the ball in for six points, with Dileberto converting
to put the Admirals into double figures.
But the NFLE comeback kids ran out
of steam in the final quarter, where Criner gave some of his back
up players some game time, including Rowell Blenman and their latest
recruit Siran Stacy, who stretched his legs in the Claymores back
fields for the first time in three years.
