Scotland
cruise to third Home Nations Championship
Flashback 1999
Scotland's National
Gridiron team cruised to their third Home Nations Title beating
a depleted Ireland squad 36-0 at Scotstoun Stadium.
With the Scots outnumbering the Irish by three to
one, the Scots were never under any threat throughout the game against
a brave Irish team who battled against the odds throughout.
The match as well as the inaugural Kerr - Thomson
Cup was won in the first half thanks to three touchdown passes from
quarterback, Roddy Greig, who was full off praise for his Celtic
Counterparts.
He said: "I admire the Irish guys for coming
over. There were only 13 of them, but they played hard all four
quarters as hard as they could.
The Scots opened the scoring early in the first
quarter when Greig fired a TD pass to Steve Branscombe from 25 yards
for the opening six points.
Greig was soon on target again at the start of the
second when he launched a a 43 yard missile to Graham White for
another six points, with Greig firing TD pass number three to David
Molloy to make it 18-0 at half time.
Runningback Davie Kidd put the home side further
infront after bulldozing his way into the endzone and Greig soon
heaped more misery on the Irish when he linked up with Branscombe
again in the third quarter to make it 30-0
The international clash was part of
a Cup Final Double bill that also saw Dundee Storm beating Glasgow
Lions 14-6 in the Scottish Flag Football League Final.
