THE DAY THAT MURRAYFIELD WENT WORLD BOWL CRAZY

It was one of the biggest sporting parties, Murrayfield had seen in many a year - and what a swell party it was!

Over 38,000 gridiron fanatics saw Jim Criner's men capture their first ever World Bowl beating Frankfurt Galaxy for the third time that season, 32-27.

In true NFL style, there were US Marching bands, fireworks displays, tartan clad cheerleaders and a four-hour pre game party - and the crowd loved every minute of it.

The game itself exploded in to life with the Claymores scoring one of the fastest touchdowns in World League history when Marcus Thomas recovered a Frankfurt fumble on the opening kick off running in 25 yards into the endzone after just 11 seconds.

Gavin Hastings added the PAT to make it 7-0, but the Galaxy bounced back when Jay Kearney ran from 16 yards for a touchdown with Ralph Kleinman bring it back to level terms with the PAT.

The Claymores defence started to feel the pressure as Frankfurt went infront for the first time thanks to a touchdown catch from Super Mario Bailley, but two touchdowns inside the two minute warning put the Claymores back infront which was soon followed up with a 46 yard field goal from Paul McCallum to put the Scots eight points infront.

Bailley soon reduced the deficit when quarterback Steve Pelleur, found Baillley for another Frankfurt touchdown, but the Claymores stretched further ahead, when Murphy caught a 35 yard pass from quarterback Jim Ballard then running 46 yards for another score.

In the final quarter, McCallum fired home his second four-point field goal, which moved the Scots one step closer to their first ever, title. But the scene was set for a nervous final minutes when Mike Bellamy caught another touchdown pass from Pelluer with Kleinman converting to make it 32-27.

But when the Claymores were forced to punt the ball back to the Germans, it was controversial fourth down fumble inside the final minute of the game, that handed the possession back to the Scots, who ran out the clock, which at that point, the party really started to swing.
