Things looked good for the Scots when
they were the first to get points on the board after Lawrence Tynes
bagged an early field goal.
With Tom Tovo missing from tonight's
line up, the Dutch were taking advantage of the situation on their
possession covering more yards on the ground than normal.
But the stuttering passing game was
helped thanks to a controversial call by the refs late in the first
quarter. But the Scots defense managed to stand their ground
restricting the home side to a 22 yard field goal from Joe O Donnell
with just over 2 minutes of the quarter remaining.
According to reports, Scott Dreisbach
had been playing with torn cartilage in his ribs on his throwing
side, but insisted that he felt fit and ready.
And unlike last week the Claymores
were starting to put some offensive yardage together, but missed
out on the chance of a 4 point field goal attempt when the clock
ran out in the first quarter.
Then the momentum changed on the first
through of the second when Dreisbach was picked off by Brandon Godsey.
Thankfully the Dutch offense failed
to take advantage of the opportunity.
On the Scots next possession, Herbert
Goodman helped to spark some life into the Claymores offense, bringing
the visitors in reach of the Dutch endzone.
But the drive once again stalled having
to rely on Rob Hart, who fired the ball through the uprights from
29 yards out to put the Scots infront, even though there was a communication
break down in the Claymores special teams with not enough men on
the field.
One of the main objectives of the Claymores
game plan was to contain the passing threat of one time Claymore,
Kevin Daft and with three minutes of the half remaining it seemed
to be working.
With
the Scots still struggling to string some passes together, they
were having more success on the ground during their next possession.
