FOOTBALL IS BACK
Amsterdam
Admirals 13
Scottish Claymores 16 FT
Second Half
Report
With 168 yards
offense for the first half, the Claymores had obliterated their
offensive stats from last week.
But a time keeper
with an itchy trigger finger gave the Admirals a lucky break early
in the half when it appeared that as the Dutch were running out
of time to get a play off, an extra 20 seconds suddenly appeared
on the play clock..
The home side took
advantage when Daft made another completion taking his side deep
into Claymores territory.
But the Scots defence
got to work again, forcing the Dutch to settle for 3 points from
44 yard field goal from O Donnell.
The Admirals were
enjoying a greater amount of possession during the third quarter,
but thankfully for the Scots this appeared to be an off day for
the Dutch who like that Scots during the last two attempts were
having a quarterback that was not fully fit.
Goodman helped
get the Scots back insight of the Dutch goal line during the
final stages of the third quarter.
Jason Byworth made
up for an offensive pass interference call early in the fourth to
go from second and 20 to just third and short, but a fumble by Goodman
was ruled down by contact helping the Scots to hold onto possession.
Dahlquist continued
to stick with Dreisbach, who was still struggling to recapture the
form of week one, with Tynes trying to convert a 53 yard field goal
attempt but finished off target.
The Dutch were
back on the move with the goal line in their sights and the Claymores
last offensive drive came back to haunt them when Daft fired off
a 16 yard touchdown pass to Kenyon Hambrick for a touchdown, which
was converted by O Donnell to put them 4 points ahead with less
than ten minutes left in the game.
And quel suprise!
As Scott Dreisbach has been wondering for a while what a completed
pass looks like, but his passing arm in gear linking well with Kwame
Cavil.
Maybe
he had been lulling teams into a false sense of security when he
pulled off a 41 yard bomb to Dondre Gillingham for six, with Hart
tagging on the extra point to put the Scots back infront by three
points with just over five minutes remaining.
A
big sack by Robert Flickinger gave the Scots possession back with
just over two minutes remaining.
Then
what appeared to be a disagreement on the sidelines resulted in
Dahlquist deciding to try and wrap the game up but the decision
backfired with the Scots having to punt, leaving the Dutch just
over one minute to try and snatch victory.
And
with just over 30 seconds, Joe O Donnell tried to clinch it with
a four point field goal, but thankfully for Dahlquist and the Claymores
it did not come close.
There
is with out doubt that there was a bit of a gamble from the Scots,
but this game would not be interesting if coaches did not take wrist.
Scott
Dreisbach was reported to have said that he would not shave until
the Claymores won. Time to get out the razors Scott.
As for Gene, he finally gets the chance to smile for the first time
in over a month.
Hopefully
this will give the guys the lift they need with their back to back
games in Glasgow during the next two weeks.
Games
like this cannot be good for the nerves, but we shall take a win
any way they come. Ugly football is back!
