AMSTERDAM 10 CLAYMORES
24 HT:
NFL EUROPE WEEK 8
Scottish
Claymores Running Back Mike Malan became a touchdown maker and touchdownblocker
as his team got off to a perfect start to their crunch road match
against the Amsterdam Admirals at the Amsterdam Arena.
The
Dutch failed to do anything on their opening possession thanks to
a tough stand from the ever improving Claymores defense.
And
from the Scottish 11 yard line, Craig Nall got of to a nervous start
when he fumbled his first play but the ball was recovered by Rodney
Trafford.
Since
then, the Green Bay Packers allocate was in full flow, engineering
an eight play eighty nine yard drive which was finished off with
Malan connecting on to a 14 yard pass over the middle, breaking
a tackle to run twenty yards into the endzone for a touchdown.
The
home side had to punt the ball away on their next play with the
ball finishing on the Scottish twenty one yard line.
Earlier
in the week, Claymores Offensive Coordinator, Ken Margerum predicted
a big night for his Quarterback.
On
the next play, Nall was on the march again with his offense and
were soon insight of the Admirals goal line.
And
from one yard line at the start of the second quarter, Malan cleared
a gap for his fellow Back, Ken Simonton, to nip in for another score,
which was converted again by Rob Hart to make it fourteen unanswered
points.
The
Admirals started to put some pressure on the Scottish Defense, but
their drive eventually stalled and had to settle for a 39 yard field
goal from Joe O Donnell to put their first points on the board.
At
their training session at Stepps this week, Margerum said that the
message to his offense for this game was not to punt. And
soon it was three drives - three touchdowns, when Malan ran home
his second score of the day.
With
just over two minutes of the half remaining, the Dutch were desperate
to take the wind out of the Scots sails and gave themselves hope
of a comeback, when Shaun Hill picked off Justin Skaggs for their
first touchdown.
But
with just over a minute, it was the visitors that had the final
word, when after another impressive drive, Hart stretched the Claymores
lead, when he split the uprights from 27 yards.
