Forging a strong relationships with the local authorities,
Primary, Secondary Schools and Further Education Colleges and backed by
the lottery Sports Funds, the Blitz have developed a strong football programme
at all levels, from Flag to Senior Kitted, producing players that have
achieved national as well as international success.
And like many football organisations, they recently held
their 2005 end of season awards, but it was a ceremony that other clubs
would look on with envy.
A point that caught the attention of the Whitbread Your
Achievers Awards, who honoured Coach Robbie Paulin
Set in the settings of the Culloden Academy and in front
of the 300 invited guests, the Blitz paid tribute to the players and cheerleaders
and their achievements during the past twelve months.
We have already had a full report of the night in question,
introductions from Scottish TV Personality, Hazel Irvine and a link up
with the coach of the Blitz’s twinned organisation in Freeport.
And when the reports started doing the rounds, the awards
ceremony soon were the talk of the Scottish Gridiron Circles.
Now you can re live the North of Scotland’s Gridiron
Event of the Year in a specially produced video of the Blitz Awards 2005.
In what is the first video of its kind in this country,
(the first I have seen in over 14 years in covering the sport) this video
presentation is an ideal indication as to how much the Blitz have progressed
during the past few months.
After a trip down memory lane the next ten minutes can
only be described as “everything that you wanted to know about the
Blitz but afraid to ask!”
As the main of the event was approaching, the safety announcements
are interrupted from the Blitz’s very own company Sergeant Major
who wanted to install some short sharp shock treatment to some unwilling
recruits, which can only be described as some of the video’s funniest
moments.
In amongst the mayhem an awards ceremony eventually broke
out, where are treated to a slick video presentation trailer as a number
of Blitz Standard Bearers performed their own special relay across a varied
backdrops with the Academy Standard all the way to the Theatre.
Complete with opening fanfairs, this was anything like
a typical Scottish Gridiron club awards ceremony.
Enter host Robbie Paulin who indulged in his own brand
of video subterfuge as he explained the format of the awards.
Instead of just handing the prizes out, the nominees get
their chance to shine on the video backdrop on stage and each winner has
their own 2005 story backed with comments by the coaches involved.
Other highlights include an impromptu appearance from
the Blitz Mascot, who takes his vengeance on the Crazy Frog and special
awards for the Bltiz Cheerleaders.
Looking at the production of the video, there are signs
of Scottish Tv’s “Touchdown Claymores” influence, but
that should not take away from the fact that for a first time effort,
this is a video presentation that is not just a great advert for the Inverness
Blitz, but a great advert for Scottish Gridiron.
