Report C/O Clyde Valley
Hawks
Clyde Valley Blackhawks buoyed by their two opening wins of the
season came crashing down to Earth on Sunday when they had a win
snatched from their grasp by Edinburgh Wolves.
Blackhawks drove decisively in their opening possession but disaster
struck when Darran Sharp had to call it quits for the day following
an injury.
Blackhawks continued to drive and were
rewarded when Davie Orr barrelled over from 12 yards out to open the
scoring.
However the extra point kick was no good. Although the Wolves tried
to mount an offensive attack the power of the Blackhawks defence
thwarted it with an interception by Darren Darroch at the end of the
half.
The power of the Blackhawks defence continued in the 3rd
quarter when David Yates sacked the Wolves QB.
The pressure continued and forced the Wolves to try for the field
goal which was no good but a penalty gave the ball back to the
Wolves for another attempt which this time was successful.
Although #42 gave the travelling supporters something to cheer when
he intercepted the ball the Wolves were unable to take advantage of
the error. Blackhawks added to the score line when Davie Orr scored
his 2nd of the day on Clyde Valley’s next possession.
The extra point kick was slotted over by Tam Chapman. But Wolves
decided that Clyde Valley shouldn’t have all their own way and
Stuart Galloway returned the ensuing kick off 73 yards for the
score.
The
extra point was broken up. Following a couple of changes of
possession the Wolves took advantage of a punt and Stuart Galloway
scampered 62 yards upfield for the go ahead score.
The Wolves kicker then pinned the Blackhawks within their own 10
yard line giving the Blackhawks a near impossible task with minutes
left on the clock. QB James Keogh mounted a sustained drive but with
time running out Blackhawks were forced to try for the long field
goal which fell short.
Clyde Valley would like to thank sponsors Chapman’s the butchers,
The Commercial Hotel for the post match hospitality and the
Lanarkshire Longhorns for supplying the chain crew.
