On
Saturday 19th August three teams of the Grangemouth Broncos travelled
to Inverness to play various teams of the Inverness Blitz Academy of American
Football.
Weather conditions
were not conducive to good Football but all the teams battled hard and
produced some exciting games.
Rockets V Broncos (Junior)
The Rockets played a home game this weekend against the
Broncos. In an exciting game the Broncos eventually ran out convincing
winners.
The Broncos won the coin toss and on their second down
scored a touchdown. The Rockets lost the ball on their first possession
and the Broncos drove down field, keeping the pressure on the Rockets
defence.
The Broncos pressure paid of and they were rewarded with
a second touchdown.The Rockets then lost the ball on downs for the second
time.
The Broncos continued their drive but the Rockets’
Marc Prasher made the most of a bad throw by making an interception and
running it back for a touchdown.
The Rockets then missed the extra point. The Broncos then
drove down field and scored again.
Coach Paulin called his first Timeout to reorganise his
team. However despite some good play by Marc Prasher was stopped at the
two-yard line.
The Rockets started
the second half trailing and the Broncos continued to extend their lead
with a series of Touchdowns.
The Rockets had some
good drives, one in particular saw a long pass by Marc Prasher caught
by Darren MacDonald.
On the next play a
fake hand off fooled the Broncos defence allowing Blair Wilkie to break
up field only to be stopped just short of the Broncos endzone.
The game ended with
the traditional handshakes. The game finished 38 – 6 to the Broncos
using the Mercy rule. MVPs of the game were Martyn Paterson and Darren
MacDonald.
