The victorious Grangemouth BroncosBRONCOS COMPLETE UK GRAND SLAM

Following a successful end to the domestic season the Grangemouth Broncos were invited by the NFL to take part in this years NFL Five Trophy.

This tournament is run jointly by the NFL and Channel Five and includes the very best teams from throughout the UK. Channel 5 as part of their normal NFL coverage then airs highlights of the tournament.

The Broncos met the Chorley Buccaneers in their first game and came away clear winners 19 - 0. Jonathan Ewing opened the scoring with the first touchdown (TD) and the Broncos never looked back. A further TD from Jonathan, and a last from Steven Giannandrea allowed the Broncos to run out clear winners.

The Second game was against the London Olympians and always had the making of a superb game. The London O's narrowly missed the England Title earlier this year and were keen to show how good they really were against the reigning UK Champion Broncos.

In a very closely fought game the Broncos ran out 6-2 winners. A single TD from Jonathan Ewing was all that split the teams. The 2 point safety for the O's just wasn't enough to close the gap and after a very hard fought defensive battle the Broncos came away with the win.

The Final was a rematch of the UK Championship Final with the Broncos facing the Selhurst Snipers who were looking for revenge after losing 46-40 in the last meeting between the teams.

Broncos Head Coach Charlie Ewing made a number of changes to the defensive set up of the team to try and minimise the strong offence of the Snipers. Ross Keir and Scott Keir double marked Snipers star player Corey White and the rest of the side stepped up to close man on man marking for the duration of the game. The ploy worked and the Snipers were held to only 7 points. Mark O'Donnell showing the way by taking on the Snipers formidable Centre and marking him out of the game.

The Broncos offence had a field day with four touchdowns. Jonathan Ewing scored 1 TD, and threw deep passes to allow Steven Giannandrea to score 2 others. The game was put beyond the Snipers when Giannandrea intercepted for his third touchdown late in the game.

The Broncos were in complete charge now and David Ewing showed excellent control of the football running it up the park on the last drive to ensure that possession stayed with the Broncos until the final whistle blew and the Broncos won the title 25-7.

Steven Giannandrea was awarded the Most Valuable Player award for his superb performance in the Final.

This victory completes a remarkable season for the Broncos as they are the first Scottish Team ever to complete the Grand Slam of National and NFL Five Titles.
