ANY GIVEN SUNDAY
Glasgow
Tigers have a date with destiny this Sunday at Dewsbury’s Rams Stadium
when they take on the London O’s in the British Youth Gridiron League
Championship Final.
The Tigers, who lost
only one match during their regular season, booked their place in their
first ever championship final with a resounding 54 point white wash of
2003 UK Champions Clyde Valley Hawks.
The Glasgow outfit
will face an O’s side who clinched the Southern Conference Play
Offs with a 38-11 win over the Bristol Aztecs.
This years final is
expected to be a battle of the running backs, with big things once again
expected of the Tigers number one playmaker, Iain “Sparky”
Dick who ran the Hawks into the ground with 4 touchdowns and astonishing
245 yards rushing on the day bringing his total for the season to a total
of 1188.
Looking to test the
Tigers defensive unit tomorrow will be London’s Devar Gayle who
also ran the show during the English side’s semi final victory.
For Tigers Head Coach,
Alan Wilson, he some times has to pinch himself to remind him that having
won the BYAFA Plate two years ago, his side are now contenders for the
National Championship title.
The Glasgow Play
Caller is under no illusion of the enormity of the task ahead against
the youth squad of one of Europe’s top senior sides.
But
he is adamant that his players are more than ready for what is a David
v Goliath challenge – and we know how that outcome went.
He said: “Pinch
me I am dreaming is what I feel like just now. 2 years from playing for
the plate we are now playing for the whole Magilla – Wow!”
“The guys are
raring to go, but we know we are the underdogs. We know that the Os have
a bigger squad 35 to our 25 they have the backing of the NFLE office in
London and are HUGE“
“Our wee guys
frae Glasgae are looking forward to the challenge as anything can happen
on "Any Given Sunday!".
“We also live
by the words of the late great Sweetness (Walter Payton) NEVER DIE EASY!”
“As for the
difference in our performance this season we had a great number of vets
this year and picked up some phenomenal rookies.”
“Coach Burns’s
bend but don’t break defence has come together as a unit. Our rookie
QB #8 Kris Kennedy inherited my son’s (Craig) old number and Craig
as his coach.
“And for a converted
DB he has come on leaps and bounds after a few rocky games he seems (Please
God) ready for big things.”
