CALEY
AIM TO ROUGH UP CLANSMEN
British College League Rookies, Caledonian University
Roughriders aim to kick start their debut campaign in their first
home game on Sunday ( Nov 23rd) at Springburn Astro Park with an
eagerly awaited rematch against reigning UK Champions, Stirling
Clansmen
Despite having a number of experienced players in
their line up, including former members of the Clansmen UK Title
winning squad from last year, TE/DE Andy Fleming and LB/FB Jamie
McCansh, the Roughriders have not enjoyed the best of starts to
their inaugural campaign in the British College League.
So far they lost their first two road games and
a series of injuries resulted in last week’s postponement
of their clash with Newcastle in order for them to tend to their
wounds..
Said Caledonian Defensive Coach Robert Mann, "After
a couple of hard hitting games the previous weeks. We had sustained
a considerable number of injuries and looked to be really short
for the Newcastle game.”
“So when we got word the game could be rescheduled
we were delighted as it gave us a chance to regroup and recover
in some key positions."
However the Glasgow side are hoping to reap the
benefit of their enforced break and avenge a 42-12 defeat by the
Clansmen two weeks ago who saw their two game winning streak come
to an end last week
The Clansmen will be without the services of Matt
Westwater, but will still have to cope with the running threat of
Jeff Byran, who notched up a hat trick of touchdowns during the
Clansmen recent 32-12 victory over the Glasgow Tigers.
But Caley Offensive Coach Graham Whyte remains confident
that his team can finally break their duck this weekend.
He said, "We have to catch Stirling on their
back foot as they have just taken an unexpected loss at Lancaster.”
”Having played them already, and adjusted
our game, we feel we have them figured. It is up to us to take it
to them early and get an early lead, and hold it."
Sundays game kicks off at 1.30pm at Springburn Astro-Park. FREE
