Some effective running after the restart gave the roughriders
a fresh set of downs, however penalties prevented any further progress.
A fumbled snap on the ensuing punt gave Sunderland excellent
field position for their second drive of the afternoon.
This time the Caledonian defense showed that it was getting
to grips with the predominantly run orientated Sunderland offense, causing
them to go 4 and out with possession returning to the Roughriders deep
in their own territory.
The remainder of the first half belonged to both teams’
defenses, with neither offense showing the ability to move the ball any
great distance.
After the restart the first chance for a score fell to
the Roughriders after a blocked Sunderland punt was recovered by defensive
end Niall Spraggs.
However penalties and some tough tackling by the king’s
defense stalled the drive 10 yards shy of the endzone.
On
Sunderland's second drive of the fourth quarter disaster struck for Caledonian
as QB, Frazier connected with his wide receiver on a fade for the second
and final score of the game.
The points were then completed with a pass into the endzone
for the 2 point conversion.
Caledonian continued pursuing their first score of the
season and on the next drive moved the ball from inside their own half
to inside Sunderland's 10 yard line. This was achieved mainly due to the
running of the rookie backfield combination of Andrew Steel and Craig
Gibson.
Penalties and missed opportunities once again killed the
drive for the Roughriders which allowed Sunderland the chance to kill
the game with a 7 play drive that took up most of the remainder of the
fourth quarter.
