After
a disappointing 2009 campaign the "canes" took to the field to face
there old adversaries with a much changed lineup.
They started strongly and despite not scoring
in the 1st quarter they controlled the majority of the period.
The 2nd period came to life with Bruce Thomson
and Darren Henderson connecting on a 71 yard touchdown made even
sweeter by the fact Henderson beat former cane Calum Buchan for the
score.
Fan favourite Mohamadou Niakate topped up the
score with a huge 44 yard field goal and a 9-0 half time lead.
Canes HC Ross McPherson took the opportunity at
the break to introduce several off his new signings and they showed
the future of the club is in good hands by completely dominating
this period with the driving rain now becoming there fiercest
foe,The only score of the period saw Niakate scramble in from 5 yds
to increase the lead to 15-0.
The forth and final period became a total
washout and its was no surprise that neither team could score in
these conditions.
Significant plus for the canes was not only the
win but the fact they managed to introduce no fewer than 14 new
signings to the club and rack up over 300 yards offence with there
new look defence holding the visitors to just under 100.
They have further opportunity to fine tune when
they wrap up there pre season campaign with a visit west to face the
Glasgow Tigers on April 18th.
