CHICAGO BEARS - A GRIDIRON DYNASTY
Chicago may be known as "The Windy City", but it is also regarded as the birth place of one of the most famous American Football Teams in the NFL.
When ever you think of historical moments in the National Football League, you can be certain that Chicago Bears play their part in there somewhere.
In fact the Bears are a franchise that is steeped in history and today is only one of two founding franchises in the NFL, still competing today
Throughout their nine decades, the Bears are amongst the most successful organisations in sporting history with nine pro football championships, and twenty-six inductions into the Hall of Fame
And who could forget when they propelled themselves to world wide acclaim when Chicago captured the 1985 Super Bowl victory and made an international mega star of William "The Refrigerator" Perry.
Not forgetting much closer to home in the mid 1990's when they gave a self confessed "skinny receiver from the Gorbals" the chance to compete on the big stage - all but for one play, when Scott Couper ran out for Chicago against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the American Bowl in Dublin .
And for devotees of the Bears, there is a unique chance to wallow in their nine decades of contribution to America 's most famous sporting league in a brand new publication by Chicago Tribune Columnist, Lew Freedman.
Chicago Bears, the complete and illustrated history is everything you want to know about one of the league's most famous franchises but were afraid to ask.
From the teams 1919 origins as the Decateur Staleys to their appearance in Super Bowl XLI, this superbly illustrated book covers the highs and lows from the Bears history and is a must for the true football fan.
It leaves no stone unturned digging up this unique story, along with some unique pictures, from George 'Papa Bear' Halas, the 'Monsters of Midway' of the 1940's, the resurgence in the 1960's, the '85 Superbowl win, and the run for title in 2006.
It pays special tributes to some of the franchises most memorable characters like Red Grange, Bronko Nagurski, Sid Luckman, Mike Ditka, Dick Butkus, Gayle Sayers, Walter Payton, Mike Singeltary.
And for those football fans who like their stats, this books has facts and figures coming out of their ears, giving you the numbers behind the famous stories - team records, year by year breakdowns, pivotal plays in the Bears history, from Halas T-formation to William 'The Refrigerator' Perry's touchdown runs and even his own special, tribute groupies "The Refrigerrettes."
Unfortunately you will not find any reference to Mr Couper in there, but that is just a minor detail.
For Chicago Bears, the complete and illustrated history is another perfect almanac for Bears fans, but for lovers of American Football History itself.
