Scottish
Claymores 3 Amsterdam Admirals 3
Hampden Park
First Half Report
The Admirals
had something to prove after their loss to the Scots two weeks ago.
And today they tried to stamp their authority right from the opening
whistle when their first drive of the day took them deep into Claymores
territory.
But thankfully
after a shaky start, the guys on the Claymores defense managed to
hold their ground, restricting the Dutch to a 47 yard field goal
from Joe O Donnell for the first points of the day.
The Admirals struggle
to make any impression during their next drive, but another impressive
punt return from JJ Moses brought the Scots back on on another offensive
drive at just short of midfield.
But in what is
a similar situation Scott Dreisbach was struggling to hook up with
his receivers but a 15 yard personal foul penalty more than helped
their cause.
The joy was short
lived after Herbert Goodman suffered a touch of the rubber hands
fumbling the ball which was recovered by the Admirals just inside
their half.
Thanks to the home
defense failed to make any headway.
And after another
scintillating return from Moses, Goodman had a chance to make up
for his earlier fumble with a super run upfield taking the
Claymores inside the Dutch half of the field.
The
drive stalled yet again, but a big special teams play saw an Arron
Langley punt dropped yards from the visitors goal line.
The
start of the second quarter saw the Admirals cough up possession
when Tony Ortiz intercepted Kevin Daft, but Dreisbach appeared to
be reluctant to use his passing game, leaving Rob Hart to tie the
scoring from 24 yards out.
Amsterdam
hit back at the Scots hard with an impressive drive upfield and
look set to get back infront but another big fumble recovery from
Michael Hawkes saved the Claymores bacon.
Apart
from a big pass to Scott McCready, the Claymores Offense appeared
to focus on Herbert Goodman and unfortunately the Admirals defence
had the strategy sussed.
