Claymores v Rhein Fire Pt 3
The game sprung to life
on the opening drive of the second half when Hybl appeared to be
in trouble but managed to dump the ball to Armahhd Galloway who
tore up field down the far side for a 44 yard gain, the longest
gain of the season.
Hybl continued to dig himself into a hole and had
to settle for a long field goal attempt from Rob Hart from 47 yard,
which had the distance but finished wide of the posts, much to the
English Kickers frustration.
On the Claymores next drive, Hybl handed Rhein a
great opportunity to get back into the game when on third down and
six, his pass was picked of by Abdual Howard, giving the Germans
great field position.
A big sack from Durrand Roundtree on Chad Hutchinson
forced the Fire further back, leaving Shafer to make it a one point
ball game with a 45 yard field goal.
Then disaster struck when Rhein punted the ball
away, which was dropped by Ian Smart and recovered by Corey Chamblin
giving the Germans great field possession.
Then the 9,000 plus Scots crowd questioned the officials’
parentage with a shocking call when Fire receiver, Wilson Thomas
was stripped of the ball which was recovered by Gerald Dixon, but
was ruled as an incomplete pass.
The Germans took full with Anderbrugge splitting
the uprights to put the Fire two points infront, much to the Scots
fans disgust.
Anes was back in for the Claymores on their next
drive, but he carried on where Hybl left off dropping the ball which
was smothered by Cedric Killings, giving the Germans great field
possession.
But two consecutive sacks on Chad Hutchinson forced
the Fire further back down field leaving Shaefer to stretch their
lead.
The walls were caving in on the Claymores offense
when Anes’ long pass up the middle was easily picked off by
Maugual Tuitele.
But thankfully a roughing the passer penalty nullified
the interception, keeping the drive alive and wiping the smug expression
of Mr. Tuitele’s face.
A
sack on Anes resulted in another Claymores turnover, but with thanks
to the performance of the Scots defensive warriors, there was no
change in the score going inside the two minute warning.
After Rhein punted away possession, the Scots had
90 seconds to save their season, but instead of caving in, they
responded with their most impressive drive of the afternoon, moving
the ball 52 yards in five plays to the Rhein 28 yard line with six
seconds remaining.
Hampden then erupted on the next play when Anes
launched an all or nothing pass to the far corner of the endzone
which was pulled in by Bellamy for the winning score.
