Highland Wildcat @ Clyde Valley
Falcons
17th
July2005 (junior kitted)
The Falcons won the toss and elected to take possession
but on the opening play David Bull blitzed forcing a fumble which he recovered
to give the Wildcats excellent field position.
QB Kenny Mackay wasted no time and on a short shovel pass
to Angus Mackintosh, who blasted his way into the endzone, opened the
scoring.
The Falcons struck back on their next drive to tie things
up, and went further into the lead when they intercepted a Wildcats pass
and two plays later scored, the Falcons continued their pressure stopping
the Wildcats and then with two great runs extend their lead to 18-6.
The Wildcats started to claw things back with Angus Mackintosh
picking up 15yards on a toss play, Matts Kraft added another couple of
yards on a dive, Euan Rennie then brought the Wildcats to within 6 yards
with only seconds remaining in the first half Angus Mackintosh ran in
untouched to bring the Wildcats within 6 points at halftime.
The Wildcats opened the second half with a series of reverses
and flea flickers to set them up on the Falcons 5 yard line, a short pass
from Kenny Mackay to centre Niall Hamilton tied the scoring.
On the subsequent Falcons drive David Bull in as Nose
tackle was again on hand to scoop another Falcons fumble. Euan Rennie
was denied his first TD when he was knocked out of bounds inches short
of the endzone, but it was Angus Mackintosh who got his third TD of the
day on a short pass from Kenny Mackay.
A very understrength Falcons team continued to fight on
and were rewarded with a fine passing TD. But as the Wildcats settled
they began to extend their lead with Angus Mackintosh throwing a 30 yard
pass to Scott Hackett with Euan Rennie finishing the drive on a short
pass.
The Falcons next drive ended when Josh Knox intercepted
a pass, Angus Mackintosh again found Scott Hackett on the end of a 30
yard pass this time Scott was not going to be stopped and finished the
scoring. Final score Clyde Valley Falcons 24 Highland Wildcats 43
Moray Firth Dolphins @ Clyde
Valley Hawks
17th July 2005 (youth kitted)
The Hawks/Dolphins
game brought together two rival QBs from last years Pop Warner league
with David Orr former Clyde Valley Falcon, leading the Clyde Valley Hawks
offence and Paul Kirkland former Highland Wildcat leading the Moray Firth
Dolphins offence.
The Hawks started
confidently with David Orr on his second play throwing a 35 yard TD pass.
With the Hawks sporting an allstar team of GB and Scotland players plus
Lee Collins and Gary Clark now college players in the States it looked
like it would be a very one sided affair.
However both teams
failed to score on their next possessions with thanks on the Dolphins
side to some great secondary play from Dolphin Shaun Mitchell.
The Dolphins came
back with their passing game with David Ronald giving some great pass
protection. Passes to David Kerr and James Pyke took them up to 15 yards
out and the drive was finished with a pass from Kirkland to Pyke to tie
the scores.
The Hawks fought back
using more running plays and regained the lead to finish the first half
14 - 6 .
The Dolphins started
the second half continuing with the air attack and tied the scoring when
Kirkland hit Pyke from 5 yards, the 2 point conversion was added by the
same duo.
The Hawks next drive
faltered thanks to some sound tackling from Chris Gordon and Billy Mill.
However it was on
the Dolphins 4th down that Lee Collins intercepted a long pass and returned
it all the way to give the lead back to the Hawks.
The next Dolphin
drive again ended in an interception but this time their defence held
firm and with less than 2 minutes to full time, the Dolphins began their
final drive with a 20 yard pass to Shaun Mitchell and with only seconds
remaining Kirkland again found Pyke with a 20 yard pass in the endzone
to tie the game.
With time expired
the game went down to extra point conversion. With no prizes for guessing
it was a short pass from Kirkland to Pyke to give the Dolphins the game
by one point .
Final score Moray
Firth Dolphins 21 Clyde Valley Hawks 20
