FLAGS FLYING HIGH

Dundee witnessed its first ever school Flag Football game at Dawson Park, with Dundee High competing against Monifieth High.

Both teams have been working hard over the past few months, under Head Coaches Andy McKellar (Dundee) and Mark Smith (Monifieth). Both squads have been looking forward to pitting their skills against each other since both started practicing.

Monifieth raced off to a 21-0 lead, with some great TD runs. But Dundee High managed to pull a score back, before the end of the half with a long TD pass. Despite closing the gap, Monifieth stepped up a gear at the start of the 2nd half with scores through the air and some more great runs. Despite a gritty performance from Dundee High, the more organised Monifieth High squad won the inaugural schools game 47-6.

Dundee HC, Andy McKellar commented; “ I am really happy to finally get the lads out there playing, after all their efforts.

We are all looking forward to next years inaugural schools league”. Monifieth HC, Mark Smith echod Andy’s comments by saying; “Its good to get a win for all the lads efforts, but the real winner here is the game in Dundee."

"This is something that has been in the pipeline for quite some time and it is really important for the future of the game in Dundee. We need to provide kids, across the area with the opportunity to get out and play this great game and the schools program will deliver that”.

Both teams will be playing in next years Dundee Hurricanes Schools Football Program. A number of high schools teams from across Dundee will be starting teams, after the festive break to compete in the schools league, which will officially kick-off in March/April 2007. It is also envisaged to have Dundee representative squads competing in SFFA leagues.
