PIRATES COMPLETE 2010 COACHING LINE UP

Darrren Traynor - New EK Pirates Head Coach
The first two months of the year have already been busy for The East Kilbride Pirates, as they ramp up preparations for the 2010 season.

With training high on the agenda, the Pirates are now pleased to confirm the coaching appointments that will drive the team forward.

Stepping up to the role of Head Coach is Darryn Trainor, originally from Oroville in Washington, US, and now based in Kilsyth.

Darryn began his extensive playing and coaching career in 1985 at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, and subsequently played with the Glasgow Lions until the mid-90s. This was followed by two years in a coaching role as part of the Scottish Claymores’ development team, and then four years as Head Coach of the North Lanarkshire Rams youth team. He joined the Pirates in 2007, first of all as a player, and then as Offensive Coordinator for the 2009 season.

Commenting on his appointment, Darryn said: “I joined the Pirates to remain involved in the sport, and it’s an honour to now be asked to be Head Coach. Over the last few years  the club has gone from strength to strength and it’s my duty to make sure that success continues. It won't be easy - success isn’t handed out on a plate - but I’m sure if the team maintains its high levels of dedication and commitment, we can achieve our goals.”

Team Chairman Matthew Davies added: “Darryn brings a wealth of experience to the role of Head Coach, as well as tremendous enthusiasm and love for the sport. I know the team will benefit hugely from this appointment.”

“I’d like to thank outgoing Head Coach Andy Mackintosh for the key role he played in the success of the Pirates during 2009, and I’m very pleased to confirm that he’ll continue to be part of our coaching team this year as Offensive Co-Ordinator. In addition, I’ve also asked Andy to lead the formation and development of the Pirates’ new youth and junior teams, a role I know he’ll excel at. Darryn and Andy are part of a very strong coaching line up that reflects the importance we place on developing the team.”
