Falcons Awards Night 2009
Clyde Valley Falcons held their annual awards night on Saturday in the ex serviceman's club in Wishaw. The evening was really well supported by players , friends and family .
The evening was hosted by coach Gillespie and coach Farral ( Wishaws new Ant and Dec they thought but we thought more Laurel and Hardie with their patter) .
Coach Gillespie started off the evening with some well deserved thanks to the people who make the team work but because they do such a good job are never noticed Lynn Samuel - Jo Woods and Steve Fallan and others .
He then went on to thank the sponsors of the trophies for the donations and for attending .
Finally the players were announced and joined the proceedings .
The coaches thanked the players for the efforts throughout the year at training and on game days .
The first award was the induction into the Hall of fame and went to Callum Woods for his contribution to the team . Callum was restricted this year as he was injured and is also a top class sprinter and is preparing for the Commonwealth and Olympic games .
The team wish Callum well in his attempt to qualify. Also inducted was Nicki Farrel who's induction was unusual as it is usually a players last year but Nicki has a year to go at Junior and shows promise as a leader and as a player. He also was presented with the Most Improved Aard as he took great strides in his performance on and off the field this year
Alistair Sidley - Gets the Braveheart award for his efforts in standing in at QB and doing a wonderful job.
Anthony McCallum - Picked up the rookie of the year . He is an outstanding runner and a prospect for next year .

Sean Fallan - received the coaches award for his all round efforts on the team . The coach said " Sean is one of those players who plays every where and any where as long as he gets to play .
Defencive MVP - Went to Mike Orr . Mike typifies a defencive player , he lives for the contact and whether first or last to the tackle you always know when he arrives as you hear the thud of pads .
Offensive MVP - Went to Be Filmar. I watched Ben at the British finals handle a player twice his size all game long . Ben loves the sport and is a great example of a lineman and tackler .
MVP - This award was well merited by Craig Samuel . He plays running back - receiver - safety - linebacker and anywhere else you could fit him . He is the type of players first on a .team sheet by the coaches .
The final award of the evening is one of the most sought after awards in a players carreer its the
Player Player of the year - This went to two stalwarts of the team as the voting was evenly split between them and both players deserved it they were Ben Filmar and Craig Samuels .
Once again the coaches would like to thank all who supported them through the year either by helping or financially .
