become Scottish Champions REPORT AND PICS CLYDE VALLEY FOOTBALL
The Clyde Valley Falcons American football team went to Cambuslang to take part in the Tigers tournament this weekend knowing that if they won they would become Scottish champions and go to England to take part in the British Championship at Junior contact level.
The scene was set .The sun shining the Gazebo's up the fans waiting in anticipation of the 1st match .Out came the Tigers and then the Falcons.The Falcons were missing their most prolific scorer and tackler Callum Woods but still had high hopes of winning.
Tigers won the toss and chose to take the ball but went 4 and out .It was the turn of the Falcons and Grant Isdale ran the length of the field in the first drive behind some great blocks by Scott Frame to open the scoring.
The defence were well up for the game and were holding the Tigers at bay in the first half going in 25 v 12 .
In the second half the Falcons took the foot of the pedal and after some great defencive coverage by Matthew Mulheron kept the Falcons alive .
After some silly mistakes it was game on and the Tigers came back at them but in the end the Falcons won by a touchdown and had the ball as time ran out.Final score 33 v 27
This meant that the Falcons only had to beat Dundee to win the tournament and become Scottish Champions.
Things didn't start well and the Dundee Storm scored first after a mistake between Isdale and QB Farrell let the Storm get a safety.
Isdale after beating everyone in a foot race ran the Length of the field in a sweep right behind blocks from Frame and Samuells.
Again at half time the Falcons were still behind but this time stepped up a gear and after a long pass from Farrelll to Harvey the Falcons found themselves on the two yard line .
Harvey scored the next play though and the Storm was all but over as the Falcons soared to become winners of the Tigers tournament winning bye 53 v 34
The last game was a friendly against the West coast Trojans and didn't count .Score 52 v 6

Coach Gillespie and Farrell were elated at winning and are now preparing for the Championship in England .
Coach Gillespie said " We have a really strong squad and a lot of players stepped up to the mark today making great tackles and great blocks . If the guys continue to improve we would have a good shot down South"
