The Clyde Valley Falcons American football team got their season off to a flyer on Saturday by winning the opening Junior Kitted American football tournament.

The Falcons hosted the tournament at the Beltane playing field in Wishaw.

The other teams that were in attendance were  Glasgow Tigers, Dundee Thunder, Edinburgh Wolves and Fife Fire.

Falcons played the Tigers in the first match and it was a really close game as usual .

New QB Nicki Farrell marshalled his team well and with a mixture of running plays and great receptions by Callum Woods and Grant Isdale and some great blocking by Scott Frame and Ben Filmer the Falcons ran out 27 v 24 .Game MVP was Grant Isdale.

This was by far the toughest game of the day.

Next was the Falcons v Wolves and this time QB Jordon Harvey got some play time and he linked up with Mattie Mulhern on the passing game and again Isdale and Woods ran behind blockers  Mike Orr and Sean Fallan .

This time the score was 38 v 2 to the Falconsand game MVP was Callum Woods. In the 3rd and penultimate game the Falcons took on new comers Dundee who played really well but by now were tiring and against a fitter and more experienced Falcons team were defeated 41 v 0.

This time the Falcons used reciever Steven Sinclair who pulled in some passes from Qbs Harvey and Farrell. Again the Falcons defence put in some awsome bone crunching tackles .Game MVP was Callum Woods.

In the final match Falcons took on Fife Fire and although the Fire were a much bigger team the Falcons tackling from Mike Orr ,Scott frame ,Ben Filmer,Callum Woods and Sean Fallan more than made up for size

The final score was 41 v 27 to the Falcons with game MVP going to Scott Frame.

This meant the Falcons were winners of the tournament and this brought great delight to Coach Gillespie he said:

"In the past we were always getting off to a slow start in tournaments and losing by just a point or two but this time the boys came out determind to win our own tournamet.

"Its great to see the boys all having fun but at the same time keeping their consentration levels up .Well done boys"

Over all tournament MVP went to Falcons Grant Isdale. Thanks to Heather and her many helpers for such great organisation on the day.
