North meets
South Clash of the Titans
Clyde Valley Falcons
and the Inverness Blitz met at the Beltane playing fields on Sunday .
The game had been set as a crunch match between the top two old Pop Warner
teams.
The stage was set,
Perfect pitch, Perfect weather and two strong squads for a 9 man friendly
when all of a sudden with 15 minutes to kick off the heavens opened up
and a deluge came down on the Beltane field.
Inverness and the
Falcons were forced to take cover until the rain passed over.
At kick off the Falcons
won the toss and chose to take the ball Kyle and Macmillan were back as
returnee’s and the combination worked well with Kyle returning the
ball to the 40 yard line
The first quarter
was defensive battle with the Falcons lead by Nichol holding firm
.In the second quarter
the Wildcats went to the air only to be picked off by Nichol who with
great blocking ran the ball back for the first TD .
The extra point was
missed .With the Wildcats trying to get back on level terms Macmillan
came on a Blitz round the outside to sack the QB and force a fumble
In the third quarter
the Falcons picked up the pace a little bit and with Macmillan breaking
a big run down the left it was a good call from coach Gillespie to run
a bootleg right . Winter took the ball in untouched .again the extra point
was missed.
The Wildcats just
couldn’t get the ball down field enough as the defence of the Falcons
were hitting in numbers. Sacks came from Weir, Harrison and McCrum .
The last score of
the game was a dive up the middle from the two yard line after Winter
had been stopped just short on a QB sneak .
This was done by Kyle
who with his head down style of running couldn’t be stopped this
brought the scoring to an end with the score being 18 v 0 .
MVP for the game
were Jamie Weir and Alan Harrison. Coach Macmillan said “This was
a big effort from the team as Inverness are a well drilled unit
“I would also
like to express my thanks to the Wildcats and there coaching staff for
travelling down and for the sportsman like mannor the game was played
in .It was a game all about football and not all about flags and stoppages."
If anyone would lie
to take up the game could they get in touch with Coach Macmillan on 07787785262
