FALCONS FLEECE UNDERMANNED RAMS

SAU/Pop Warner Scotland League

Clyde Valley Falcons 28

North Lanarkshire Rams 0

The Falcons rounded of their regular season with a 100% record and a comfortable victory over there Lanarkshire rivals.

The odds were heavily in the Falcons favour before a ball was even kicked outnumbering the Rams squad by almost 3-1.

The strength of depth in the Falcons squad soon started to make an impact on the Rams opening drive when Gary Burns forced a fumble by Graham Aitken which was recovered by Blake Kyle.

However the Rams defense held their ground forcing Clyde Valley to punt away possession.

But lady luck smiled on the Falcons when the punt came off a Rams player and was downed by William Winter giving the Falcons a new set of downs at the Rams 3 yard line

Winter finished things off on the next play with a well worked reverse move, taking the ball over the far side of the end zone for the opening six points.

The Rams next drive was short lived when, Falcons, Ross Ivison intercepted a wayward pass and sprint up field before being tackled on the 5 yard line.

The home side then took advantage when Alan Harrison took the pitch from David Orr and barrelled his way to the end zone for the touchdown, with John Minto splitting the uprights for the extra point conversion

The Rams problems continued when a loose ball was once again recovered by Kyle, giving the Falcons excellent field position.

Falcon’s Graeme Macmillan then took the reverse pitch and raced 25 yards up field for the Falcon’s third touchdown, with Fraser Anderson carrying the ball into the end zone for the extra point.

As the weather conditions took a turn for the worse, the Rams were now battling for pride and faired better on their next drive and found themselves 3 yards from the Falcons goal line.

However their drive ended on a sour note when disaster struck once again after a pass aimed at the end zone was picked off inside the scoring zone by Falcon’s Colin Nicol.

Greg Conroy capped the interception off when he dashed 40 yards to the end zone for a TD.

Again it was Fraser Anderson who made sure of the extra points on a tackle breaking run. capping off another good day at the Clyde Valley office.

In the end, the strength and depth of the Falcons squad and the horrible weather conditions proved a tall order for the Rams.

Both sides will now have a two week respite before they rub shoulder pads again in the Final of the first SAU/Pop Warner League at Wishaw on Sunday 28th March.
