HAWKS NARROWLY DEFEAT TIGERS

Clyde Valley Hawks 22
Glasgow Tigers 14
Hawks travelled to Cambuslang on Sunday to take
on the in-form Glasgow Tigers.
Clyde Valley’s first drive was quickly stubbed
out by a powerful Tigers defence. Glasgow’s offence then took
control of the ball and drove from their own 17 yard line behind
some strong running by Rafe Shanmugam, however Hawks Andy Reynolds
halted the drive on 10 yard line when Tigers went for it on 4th
down.
In the 2nd quarter Hawks took the lead on a 15 play drive which
culminated in a 9 yard pass from QB Ben Hann to Tam Chapman for
the TD.
Chapman also kicked over the extra points. Tigers
tried to put points on the board on their next drive but were unfortunate
when their field goal attempt was unsuccessful.
Hawks added to the score before the half ended,
after an 11 yard catch by Lee Collins and an 18 yard grab by Tam
Chapman, running back Gary Clark barrelled 8 yards for the TD. This
time the extra point was blocked by the Tigers.
In the 3rd quarter Tigers offence stepped up a gear.
Starting on their own 30 yard line following two pass completions
for 29 yards from QB Craig Wilson to Derek Russell and a 17 yard
run by Ian Dick the Tigers were rewarded when William Baxter reeled
in a 2 yard pass from Craig Wilson for the TD. Baxter also kicked
the extra points.

Glasgow drew level at the start of the 4th quarter
when Derek Russell caught a 33 yard TD pass from Craig Wilson. Hawks
blocked the extra point attempt. Clyde Valley’s Scott Finlay
showed his versatility in the 4th quarter. Having earlier caught
a pass while on offence, he intercepted the ball for a second time
with less than 2 minutes in the game.
Hawks converted this turnover to points when on
4th and inches QB Ben Hann broke a tackle and scurried 41 yards
for the go-ahead score. The sure boot of Tam Chapman added the final
2 points of the day.
All Hawks coaches, players and sideline staff would
like to wish lineman Graeme McMillan good luck when he travels to
the U.S.A. to play with a high school team for a year.
Graeme has played for Hawks for the past 3 years
and his hard work and dedication has been tremendous. He had a fantastic
final game for the Hawks with 2 solo tackles and 8 assisted tackles.
