Tigers Crowned Scottish Champions

Glasgow Tigers 34 – Clyde Valley Hawks 0

Hawks travelled to Cambuslang on Sunday to take on title contenders Glasgow Tigers. Although the scoreline suggests this was a one sided affair it was anything but.

Once again it was both teams’ defences who dictated the game and held the first quarter scoreless.

The deadlock was broken in the 2nd quarter when Tiger’s David Carney intercepted a wayward pass.

Glasgow took full advantage when Scott Watson rumbled over for the opening score. Derek Russell slotted the ball through the uprights the extra point.

Following some powerful running from Hawks’ Scott Findlay Glasgow’s’ Brodie McDonald snatched the ball which set up Tiger’s second score of the day. Kyle Wilson was on the end of a Kris Kennedy 35 yard pass for the TD.

The sure boot of Derek Russell scored the extra points. Glasgow continued to pile on the agony when following a 2nd David Carney interception a 40 yard pass from Kris Kennedy to Kyle Wilson added to their tally. Derek Russell made sure of the extra points.

Following half time Hawks defence stepped up a gear and refused to allow any scoring in the third. In the 4th, Glasgow took advantage of a Hawks error when Malcolm Pickard reeled in an interception.

This time it was Kris Kennedy’s turn to keep the ball and scamper in from the 4 yard line. Derek Russell booted over the extra points.

Glasgow finished the scoring when Alan Bodel caught the Hawks QB in the endzone. Hawks fought valiantly in the next drive but were unable to progress to the endzone before time ran out.

Clyde Valley has a few weeks off to recover before their next home match against NL Rams on 6th August.
