Clyde Valley started the 2008 season with a loss to Gateshead Senators on Sunday. Senators took the first possession of the ball and marched steadily upfield behind some powerful running by Gavin Barr and Ian Dover, Barr rounded off the drive with a 25 yard streak up the sidelines for the opening touchdown.
A swarming Hawks defence prevented the extra points being scored. Although Clyde Valley mounted a drive of their own it stalled in their own half.
Gateshead capitalised on this when Ian Dover burst through the middle and sprinted 20 yards to the endzone to add to their tally.
The extra point was no good. In the 2 nd quarter Senators scored again on a catch and run by Adam O'Brien from a long way out.
This time Ian Dover carried the ball over to bring the score to 20 v 0. Hawks next possession started deep in their own half but QB Will Winter linked with brother Mark Winter on a pass from Hawks 35 yard line due to some good pass protectionfrom his linemen. Mark then raced up the sidelines for Hawks first touchdown.
The score was increased by another 2 points when Graeme Duncan at full back rumbled over. By the time the second half had started new head coach Gareth Cowie had some adjustments made on the defencive side of the ball .

Although the honours were shared in the 2nd half, first with Gateshead scoring on a 3yard dive by Adam O’Brien and Hawks finishing the scoring for the day when Mark Winter scooped in a 4 yard pass for his 2 nd touchdown, the Senators the opened their season campaign with a win.
Coach Cowie said " They were better drilled than us as we are a really new squad that needs some more practice as a squad and with some adjustment especially on defence we will be a differant team at the next game"
The Hawks want to thank all who helped put things together on the day Hawks next game is at home
