Hawks
ready for British Gridiron Showdown PT 2
Then what was a closely contested
game started to turn sour when an unnecessary late hit by Chapman
sparked off a furious reaction on the field and from the Rams touchline.
The game
was briefly held up when the arguments continued from both sides
but thankfully the game was restarted with Chapman given his marching
orders along with Rams player David Hare for retaliation
As
the action progressed, the tension was still evident during the
final minutes of the first half as the
verbal volleys continued.
The Rams failed to make any impression
on their first drive of the third period and had to punt the ball
away.
The minutes later, Collins put
the Hawks one step closer to regaining their Scottish crown with
his second score of the day which was complement with a two point
conversion from Lee Nelson.
The Rams then mounted what appeared
to be another impressive drive despite having problems protecting
the football.
And they gave up another potential
go al scoring opportunity when they fumbled the ball away at the
Hawks 15 yard line.
The Hawks then made an impressive
start to the fourth quarter when Macmillan brought in another long
pass giving the Hawks good field position.
And Clyde Valley were soon in
the comfort zone when Lee Nelson ran into the far corner of the
end zone for another six points, which was then converted for a
commanding 36-0 lead.
The game was effectively over.
But the Rams still managed to take the shine off the Hawks on the
resulting kick off, when receiver Martin Wallace returned the ball
three quarters the length of the field for a well deserved touchdown,
despite the protests from the Hawks touchline that the receiver
went out of bounds.
The Hawks were soon in trouble
again when the Rams recovered their own kick off, giving themselves
good field position.
But the time ran out on the Rams
and they were soon stopped in their tracks when O Rourke was intercepted
inside the final minutes of the game.
The Hawks now head south to Dewsbury
on October 19th for the 2003 British
Youth Gridiron League Final when they will take on Lancashire
Wolverines, with Glasgow Tigers taking on Wessex Stallions for the
Plate Final.
