Hawks
ready to fly south for British Gridiron Showdown

British Youth League -
Scottish Conference Final

Valley Hawks 36 North Lanarkshire Rams 8
Clyde Valley Hawks
powered their way to their first UK Youth final with a convincing
clean sweep over their Lanarkshire rivals.
Having clinched
the Scottish Division last year, the Hawks were favorites to regain
their title having gone through the regular season undefeated for
the second successive year.
But having pushed
the Hawks close in last year's final, losing on a last minute field
goal; the Rams were looking to go one better than their Lanarkshire
neighbours after having been on the receiving end of two heavy defeats
already during this campaign.
In
the blistering windy conditions at Lanark Race Course the Hawks
finally managed to break through the stiff resistance of the Rams
defense, when in the dying seconds of the first quarter, a long
run from Colin Macmillan, brought the Hawks down to the one yard
line.
And at the start
of the second a one yard dive into the end zone from Mark McKenzie
opened the scoring, which was converted by Tom Chapman for a an
8-0 Hawks lead.
Disaster struck on
the Rams next drive, when they fumbled the ball away which was recovered
by John Devoy. And minutes later, the Hawks went further ahead
when Lee Collins strolled home for another score.
The Rams tried to
step up the pace and were soon threatening the Hawks goal line and
were unlucky not to open their account when a beautiful pass from
quarterback David O Rourke, slipped through the fingers of the diving
Brian Gall in the corner of the end zone.
