The result not only gives the Rams the title of
Scottish Champions, but gives them their first UK Championship berth
where they will contest the BYAFA Youth Kitted Final in Dewsbury
on September 5th.
Said an ecstatic Rams Head Coach Darryn Trainor:
“I just never thought that this would happen.”
“The Kids played with a lot of heart, believed
in them selves and they got there.”
“I always thought they we could move the ball
on them but we took a while to get going.”
“We had more depth this game than we had all
year and I think it told, because their guys were playing both ways
and near the end they started to tire.”
“This was a total team effort. We have got
a good bunch of kids here and now that we are in the final, we have
got a chance.”
“We have been able to beat everybody else,
so hopefully we can keep doing it.”

Despite being plague with personnel problems the
Hawks capitalised on a special team’s breakdown early in the
first quarter with a Gary Clark touchdown and a Tam Chapman 2 point
conversion gave the reigning champions an 8-0 lead.
But the strength in depth of the Rams squad proved
too much for the depleted Hawks squad with Blair McTague opening
the visitor’s account, with Kyle Mathieson tying the scoring
with the extra point conversion.
Running back, Adam Donaldson, who played his part
in ending the Hawks 18 month unbeaten run during the North Lanarkshire
side’s victory at Cumbernauld earlier in the season, was on
form again adding two more touchdowns, with Ross Graham’s
2 point conversion catch, capping off a memorable day for the Rams.
For Hawks Head Coach, Steve Collins, the season
has been a bit of a roller coaster ride.
Despite clinching the Northern Conference Title,
they have had to cope with the loss of several players through injury
as well as two key players, Graham MacMillan and Lee Collins who
will be spending the next year in the States as part of a High School
Student programme.
And today the Hawks Head Coach could not hide his
disappointment at some of the calling by the match officials, after
a gutsy performance by his depleted squad where many of his players
were forced to play both sides of the ball.
He said: “Their second touchdown changed the
game, which was blatantly out of bounds which was according to other
sources.”
“You can blame the referees all day, but at
the end of the day, we did not do enough on offense to win.”
“We have played a full season with basically
eleven players. We have had lots of guys away. The two kids away
to the States were massive players.
“But you cannot take it away from Darryn’s
team, they won fair and square.”
“But how can you take a team who gets beat
46-12 first game of the season and then we lose twice to them, very
close. You can only point to the fact that it was due to the lack
of numbers.”
