Valley Hawks 0 – Glasgow Tigers 3
Glasgow travelled
to Clyde Valley this week to take on Hawks. The weather made it an ideal
day for an offence game however both defences had other ideas.
Although Tigers were
first with the ball it was the Hawks supporters that had something to
shout about when Blake Kyle and Kris Henderson combined to down the punter
in the backfield.
This gave the Hawks
excellent field position but the Tigers defence held firm and forced CV
to attempt the field goal, unfortunately it inched past the left upright.
Glasgow then combined
in a run by Kieran Philips and pass from Kris Kennedy to Derek Russell
only to have the ball intercepted by CV’s Scott Findlay.
Glasgow’s defence
behind some powerful tackling by Chris Lang, Alan Bodel, David McLaughlan,
Ziv Shamugam and Alan Greenshields refused to allow Hawks movement of
the ball. Both teams trade possessions with Hawks winning the battle of
the punts behind the strong boot of David McGrath.
Tiger's QB Kris Kennedy
connected with both WR’s Derek Russell and Kyle Wilson to gain positive
yards but once more fierce tackling from David Yates, David McGrath and
Karl McCran combined to halt the drive.
The sure foot of Glasgow’s
Derek Russell opened the scoring on a 26 yard field goal. A sack on Hawks
QB by Alan Bodel and a field goal blocked by David Carney ended the half
in the Tigers favour.
The second half continued
in the vein of the first with both defences dominating. Hawks punter David
McGrath gave the Tigers a near impossible task when he kicked the ball
down to their 3 yard line. McGrath showed his versatility when he caught
the Tigers QB in the backfield forcing him to fumble, which was recovered
by CV’s Karl McCran.
Once more Hawks were
forced to attempt the field gaol but it incehed wide right. On Tigers
next drive pressure put on by Hawks defence with David Yates and Karl
McCran stopping the runner in the backfield and Blake Kyle sacking the
QB, forced Tigers to punt the ball. Glasgow then returned the favour when
Jason Gillespie sacking the Hawks QB.
With
time running out Glasgow set up for the field goal but it was blocked
by an advancing Hawks defence.
Another sack by CV’s
David Yates forced the Tigers to punt but an error gave the ball back
to the Tigers, who then managed the clock well.
When the Hawks took
over they had time for only one play and Tigers Paul Polson ended any
hope when he sacked the QB.
Mention has to be
made of Hawks Graeme MacMillan who powered his way at RB but demonstrated
his strength when he was called into the offensive line. Hawks next game
is at home on 25th June against North Lanarkshire Rams.
