HAWKS TOO STRONG FOR BATTLING TIGERS
Reigning
British Youth Champions, Clyde Valley Hawks completed their first
whitewash of the 2004 campaign earlier this week at Wishaw Sports
Centre earlier this week, but they had to work hard for their points
against a resilient Tigers side.
Due to the cut back in the number of teams this
year, both sides came into the game with new additions to their
line up, in particularly from Inverclyde Sharks, who are currently
enjoying success at junior level.
Included in the Hawks line up was GB internationalist
and former Inverclyde regular Gary Clark and on the opposite side
of the field included a number of his former team mates, including
Darren Banks
During this game, the Ex Sharks on the Tigers side
were allowed by the management to wear helmets of their former club
as a mark of respect and a come back soon message to the Inverclyde
outfit.
The Hawks were flying on the opening drive, going
right down to the Tigers 10 yard line, but the drive eventually
stalled thanks to some tough defending from the visiting defense.

The size and bulk of the Hawks front row ensured
that the Glasgow side had their work cut out on their first possession
and had to punt the ball back to Clyde Valley.
Clyde Valley then hit the Tigers hard following
a big gain from Clark taking the ball to the Tigers 18 yard line.
Minutes later, the home side continue to make further
progress when Craig MacMillan took the ball 1 yard short of the
goal line.
Then the break through finally came when Quarterback
Ben Hann scrambled over the goal line for the opening touchdown,
which was converted by Tam Chapman for an 8-0 lead.
