Hawks Swoop On Tigers

Youth American Football
Clyde Valley Hawks 14 ~ Glasgow Tigers 0

Report and Pic C/O Clyde Valley Football

Hawks first home game of the season saw them take on Glasgow Tigers on Sunday.

This was always going to be a hard fought game with both sides having strong defences. Hawks received the ball but Tigers defence refused to allow them to make a first down. Clyde Valley’s defence responded in the same manner and this set the tone for the whole game.

Hawks had the better field position with Tigers being forced to begin most of their drives from inside their own 20 yard line. In the 2nd quarter Clyde Valley attempted a 35 yard field goal but it sailed wide right in the strong wind.

The deadlock was broken shortly afterwards, when Hawk’s Ryan Rodgers caught Tigers quarterback in the endzone for the safety and 2 points.

Hawks defence continued to pile on the pressure in the 3rd quarter when a Tigers pitch was intercepted by Ryan McCabe who scampered 12 yards to the endzone for the 6 points.

A swarming Tigers defence blocked the extra point kick. Clyde Valley’s Blake Kyle gave the fans something to cheer in the 4th quarter when he sprinted 20 yards on a tackle breaking run.

But the cheer was short lived when Hawks fumbled the ball. Tiger’s offense found the going difficult when Ryan Rodgers sacked the quarterback for a loss of 8 yards.

With time running out Glasgow went for it on 4th and long only to see the pass intercepted by Blake Kyle who barrelled 18 yards to the endzone to put the game beyond the Tigers.

Due to a penalty Hawks had 2 attempts to score the extra points but the Tigers closed in on the ball to prevent the kick being scored.

Clyde Valley American Football would like to thank all the people who helped out with refereeing and the food.
