HAWKS HAVE DIVISION TITLE IN SIGHT

Youth American Football

Clyde Valley Hawks 8
Lancashire Wolverines 0

In a repeat of last years British championship game, Clyde Valley took the honours once more, this time, to be virtually assured the Northern Division Championship.

The narrow, hard fought victory over Lancashire Wolverines secured home field advantage for the playoff. Wolverines had the first possession and drove valiantly upfield behind some strong running by Matt Lord but an incomplete pass forced them to punt the ball. With Hawks regular QB on holiday the versatile Tam Chapman stood in at QB.

On CV first drive a fumbled ball was recovered by Lancashire. Both teams traded possession before CV’s Scott Finlay intercepted a wayward David Mead pass.

This inspired the Hawks who marched downfield behind some powerful running by Gary Clark. At the end of the half Hawks attempted a 42 yard field goal but a strong cross wind forced it to fall short.

In the third quarter fierce tackles from Wolverines Greg Barrow and Ellery Hodson forced Clyde Valley to punt the ball. Hawks defence stepped up a gear on the next play when Gary Clark stripped the ball from a Wolverines player, burst through the line and barrelled his way to the endzone for the only TD of the day. Tam Chapman slotted over the extra points.

A sack and a forced fumble by Hawks John Devoy killed off any chance of a Wolverines comeback. This week Hawks say goodbye and good luck to Lee Collins. In his last game for the Hawks he played both offence and defence. While on defence he had one interception, one solo tackle and one assisted tackle.

Lee has worked tirelessly for the Hawks for the last three years and his hard work has paid off as he has been chosen to play for Garnet Valley High School, Pennsylvania U.S.A. for one year.

All players, coaches and sideline staff wish Lee well in his year ahead
