Inverness win Catfight
SAU Pop Warner
League Scotland 2004 Week 2
In
week 2 of the SAU Pop Warner junior kitted American Football League the
Highland Wildcats were on the road again this time playing the Bannerman
High Wildcats.
The Highland team showed from the very start that were
going to be the top cats and with some great running from James Pyke and
passes from Paul Kirkland to Scott Hackett and Chris Gordon secured there
second win by 22points to 0.
On kick-off return Chris Gordon put the Highland team
in good field position with a thirty yard return, James Pyke on his second
run of the day took the ball 35 yards to open the scoring.
The Highland Wildcats quarterback, Paul Kirkland, added
2 points with a pass, which he just managed to release before being flattened,
which found Scott Hackett in the Bannerman endzone.
Some powerful tackling from Liam Mackenzie stopped Bannerman
just short of the endzone and James Pyke put an end to the drive when
he intercepted a pass to give the Highland team the ball back.
With the full length of the field to go the Highland Wildcats
put together a successful series of plays starting with a 30 yard pass
to tight end Chris Gordon, James Pyke picked up 24yards over three running
plays and the drive was rounded off just as it had started with a pass
to Chris Gordon.
The Highland Wildcats QB, Paul Kirkland ran in the extra
points conversion on a bootleg to give them a 16 to 0 lead. Bannerman`s
next possesion was short lived when they failed to get a first down and
Highland regained possesion.
With less than 7 seconds left in the game they turned
once more to the air attack and once again Paul Kirkland connected with
Chris Gordon with a 20 yard pass to make the final score Bannerman High
Wildcats 0 Highland Wildcats 22.
The Highland Wildcats
now look forward to their first home game of the season on Sunday 19th
September when they play the Clyde Valley Falcons at the Bught Park Inverness,
kick-off 1pm.
