Misery for Wolves as Dundee Dominate
Edinburgh Wolves 0 – 59 Dundee Hurricanes
EDINBURGH
– The Edinburgh Wolves looked a shade of their former selves
as they were served a large dish of humility at the hands of the
Dundee Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes outplayed
the Edinburgh side for the duration of the game and it showed in
the scoreline. Right from the first drive when Fraser Thomson ran
14 yards to the endzone to take a 6-0 lead, it looked ominous for
the Wolves when they were unable to reply.
Dundee’s offense
didn’t need to score all the points as their defense helped
out with three interceptions of Wolves quarterback David Glendinning.
Two of these were returned for scores, 42 yards from Fraser Thomson
in the first quarter and 40 yards by his brother Bruce in the fourth.
Even Special Teams was
not immune as Mahamadou Niakate fielded a Wolves punt as his own
27 yard line and cut a swathe through the Edinburgh sides defenses
to hit the endzone for a the Tayside teams ninth and final touchdown.
Six Hurricanes players
made the scoresheet, three of them – Fraser Thomson, Ryan
Creighton, Mahamadou Niakate, made two visits as the demoralised
Wolves endured the final minutes of the game.
Asked for positives to
be taken from the game, Coach Laird jibed, “The rain stayed
off? We managed to get 11 players on the field? I don’t know,
I’m at a total loss.
“Our offense didn’t
click this afternoon, and we had some problems of defense and special
teams as well. We are better than today’s display and we must
be able to show it on a regular basis. We’ve got Glasgow coming
in next week and we must put this game behind us quickly and get
ready for the Tigers who are another tough team.”
Recent games between
the two sides have been close including a 16-8 scoreline in Dundee
just four weeks ago. The two sides will meet again for the last
game of the regular season at Jack Kane Centre in August where the
Wolves will be looking to restart the streak of tight, exciting
games between these teams.
Next week the
Wolves play the Glasgow Tigers for the first time this season at
the Jack Kane Centre.
