The
Clyde Valley Falcons took part in the first round robin tournament for
Junior Kitted this year up in a very sunny Inverness.
The team left Wishaw
at 6am on Saturday to go up to Inverness where they were to face some
stiff opposition.
Last years two Scottish
representatives in the BYAFA finals Highland Wildcats and Glasgow Tigers
as well as new boys Fife Fire and Northern Wildcats.
The first game was
a classic with Falcons taking on home team Highland Wildcats. It really
turned out a nail biting, bruising shoot out. Falcons got the ball right
away and after just two runs by Darren Sharpe found themselves in the
lead 6 v 0 the two point conversion by Chris McCrum was denied.
Inverness went on
two score right away on their first position with Angus Mackintosh scoring
his first of many in the tournament.
The game went back
and forth and scorers for the Falcons were Sharp, McCrum and young QB
Mark Winter.
A pass from Winter
to McCrum and a two point conversion with only 1 minute left on the clock
had the Falcons thinking they had won it but game M.V.P. Angus Mackintosh
running the ball from one end of the field to the other to score the winning
touch down giving Inverness the game by a narrow margin 37 v 32.
In the Falcons next
game they faced the Northern Wildcats and beat them convincingly by 42
points to 13. Chris McCrum getting M.V.P for his all round performance.
Tigers
were next to fall to the Falcons after a close start with the Tigers leading
at half time the Falcons picked up the tempo and McCrum and Sharp both
got interceptions to allow the Falcons to come out on top by 39 points
to Glasgow’s 21.
The Falcons final
game was against the new boys Fife Fire .They scored a shut out scoring
40 points to Fife’s 0.
The tournament winners
were Highland Wildcats with the Falcons being a close second. Tournament
M.V.P. was Invernesses star player Angus Mackintosh
Jamie Dickie, Christopher
McCrum and Mark Winter all received game M.V.P.s for their outstanding
performances at the tournament.
The Falcons host
the next tournament at Wishaw on the 28th of April where they hope to
beat Inverness and win the tournament this time.
