Now for the "easy bit"

This one's going over

The next day, my wife decided to take on the mantle of Head Coach standing behind the goal posts issuing her orders – so what else is new.

She told me to imagine some one that I did not like was behind the goal and was aiming the ball to fall square on their head.

I thought of the wife’s mother and the form soon started to improve.

My Wife/Coach backed by my young daughter and her friends turned to cheerleading in an attempt to try and get me to produce something special.

Well the big day had finally dawned and Mother Nature was doing her washing.  The rain was pelting down.  I had shaken off a leg injury but was still kicking further than I had started.

At stake for us hopefuls was to capture on of the seven roster spots in Jim Criner's squad for next year.

I got to Stepps playing field with plenty of time.  Two coaches half a dozen players and a Rottweiler named Tyson soon joined me.  And as he guys were chatting amongst themselves, that dam dog would not leave my side.

Whilst the guys were think about gridiron glory, it looked as if the mutt was looking at me and thinking LUNCH.

The then Claymores National Coach, Mike Kenny then started to give out the forms for us to fill in and said “ Get changed and then get upstairs where Coach Criner will talk to you – and keep your greedy hands off the coffee – that is for the staff.”

After the pre briefing, we wee then separated into our respective groups, where guys were being tested with 40 yard sprints and 220 lb bench presses.  But Coach Criner had taken us away from the madness where it was time to finally get our kicking legs in gear.
