Pyros’ extinguished by the Heat of the Knights

The Edinburgh Napier Knights got their season back on track with a convincing win over the West of Scotland Pyros’. A slew of injuries saw a stuttering start to the season by last years playoff contenders but a return to the line-up of star Running Back Jamie ‘the Cyclops’ Welsh  proved to be the much needed tonic the Knights required. Welsh had a standout day with 25 carries for 158 yards and a brace of Touchdowns. Wide Receiver Neale Lees added another score through the air on an 11 yard reception from Dominik Weist as the Knights surged to an 18-0 lead.

The Black Knights defence were also having a standout day with 4 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries holding the Pyros’ offense to 83 yards in total offense. Rookie Ryan Strachan recorded 2 sacks with Safety Euan Miller snagging 2 fumble recoveries as the Defense responded to the challenge of creating more takeaways from their opponents.

The Pyros’ stuck to their task throughout the game behind the running of back, player-Head Coach, Bud McFerrin, before finally scoring on a 25yard reverse to Liam Baird with almost the last play of the game.

Knights Head Coach was happy to get a win on the board. ‘Coming off our playoff run last season a lot was expected from us and whilst we seem to have gotten off to a slow start this year I’m delighted this young group of players have stuck to their task, worked hard, and can enjoy the reward that they deserve’.

Whilst Laird praised his players, a short week see’s the first of two intercity matchups with cross town rivals the Edinburgh Predators with a 1pm kickoff at Peffermill playing fields.
