New Look For Longhorns!
Lanarkshire Longhorns Junior American Football team finished their final pre-season training session with a display of their all new strips for the 2011 season. The team benefitted last season from a £9850 grant from Awards for All Scotland which was invested in a full new set of strips, pads and helmets which the team will be sporting in their upcoming campaign. After a successful recruitment campaign during the off-season the squad are now fully prepared to improve on last year’s achievements with their objective of making the play-offs for the first time.
The Longhorns finished 3rd in their division in what was their first competitive season last year, playing against 4 other teams from the north of England. This year they are joined in the BAFACL Junior North Division by one other Scottish side, Inverclyde Phoenix, and will be locking horns with another 5 sides from south of the border.
The Longhorns travel to Tyneside on Sunday 17th April for their opening game against the Gateshead Senators Junior team, followed by another trip south on the 8th May to face last year’s national finalists, Lancashire Wolverine Colts.
With players drawn from Cumbernauld to Lanark, Cambuslang to Shotts, the Longhorns genuinely represent the whole of Lanarkshire so if you want to get along and support your team the first home game will be played on Sunday 15th May at Beltane playing fields in Wishaw with a return match against the Senators.
