Falcons Win Panther Bowl
(Junior
American Football)
On Saturday 16th April
Falcons travelled to Paisley to take part in their first Bowl tournament
of the season.
Falcons have joined
the BYAFA League where they play 5 on 5 kitted football. CV’s first
game was against North Yorkshire Rams.
The game began a little
unsurely with both teams fumbling the ball. Mark Winter capitalised on
a Ross Ivison fumble recovery when he reeled in an 8 yard pass for the
opening score the PAT was no good. Rams were unable to score on their
next drive and once again gave the ball back to the Falcons.
Graeme MacMillan added
to the score when he ran the entire length of the field for Falcons next
TD, once again the PAT was no good.
The Rams threatened
to score before the half but the clock ran out on them. At the start of
the second half the Rams drove downfield and scored on a 6yard pass.
The PAT was unsuccessful.
Falcons continued to pile on the pressure when Blake Kyle took the handoff
and was denied a TD when he was stopped on the 5 yard line.
The job was finished
when MacMillan caught a David Orr pass and scrambled 4 yards to the endzone.
The PAT was added
by Kyle. MacMillan showed his versatility on defence when he intercepted
a wayward pass.
Winter added his second
TD of the day to further increase Falcons score. Rams never gave up and
came back strongly on their next drive and scored the 6 points on a 5
yard pass.
This finished the
scoring in the game which saw the Falcons win by a score of 26 to 12.
Game MVP was Graeme MacMillan
Their next game was
against Glasgow Tigers. Winter started this game the way he ended the
last with a catch in the endzone for a Falcons TD, Chris McCrum added
the extra points.
Alan Harrison then
recovered a Tigers fumble. CV increased their lead when Harrison caught
a 14 yard pass from Orr for the TD.
Again McCrum added
the extra points. Tigers tried hard to come back and were rewarded when
the scored a TD. However, just before the half ended McCrum was on the
receiving end of a 15yard zipped pass for a TD.
This time it was Harrison
who added the extra point. In the second half the Tiger once more tried
to come back and they scored on a 5 yard pitch and run. the extra points
were scored on a run play.
Both defences then
set in and allowed no further scoring. The game ended with Falcons winning
by 23 to 14. Game MVP was Chris McCrum.
CV’s last game
of the day was against Paisley Panthers. Although the score line of 40
to 2, to the Falcons, suggests a one sided affair Panthers spirit never
flagged throughout the game and their never say die attitude kept them
fighting to the final whistle.
The TD scorers for
Falcons on offence were Chris McCrum (2), Mark Winter (1), Blake Kyle(1)
with the PAT scored by McCrum (1), Alan Harrison (1).
On defence Both Chris
McCrum and Colin Nicol intercepted the ball and carried it all the way
to the endzone for a pair of TDs.
Game MVP was David
Orr. Clyde Valley, tournament winners, were also given the honour of tournament
MVP which went to Graeme MacMillan. Falcons travel to Sheffield for their
next tournament on 14th May.
