Pirates get in
on the Olympic act

American Football might not be an Olympic Sport, but
The East Kilbride Pirates still got in on the act on Saturday by taking
part in a Games-inspired Youth Festival at Grangemouth Stadium.
The day was one over 1,000 similar events taking
place across the country as part of this year’s London 2012 Open
Weekend, supported by BP. Celebrating one year to go to the games, the
event at Grangemouth was designed to encourage positive healthy activity
by having som fun with different types of sports.
Competing alongside other attractions such as Zumba
and Roller Derby, the Pirates offered local youngsters in Grangemouth a
hands-on opportunity to find out about throwing and kicking, as well as
try on some of the kit used in American Football.
“These kinds of events are a great opportunity to
introduce kids to a sport they’ve probably never had a chance to see up
close up before, so we’re always keen to get involved,” said team
Chairman Amanda McDonald. “I hope everyone who took part on the day had
some fun and might even consider playing at Youth level when they’re a
bit older. Thanks to Pirates’ crew Blair McTague, Steven Kane, Kris
Henderson, and Leanne Bence for manning the event.”
