Clyde Valley Falcons 49 –Bannerman High Wildcats 0

Clyde Valley Falcons kicked off the prestigious Pop Warner League with an emphatic win against the smaller squad of Bannerman High Wildcats.

Falcons were first to receive the ball and on the 2nd play from scrimmage, from their own 30 yard line, QB David Orr pitched the ball to RB Fraser Anderson who make a slashing run upfield all the way to the endzone for 6 points.

The extra points were scored when Allan Harrison connected on a pass from Orr.

Steven Anderson forced the Wildcats to punt deep in their own half but on the strangest play of the afternoon the ball sailed over the the punter’s head, he then picked it up and threw the ball towards his team mate, the ball hit his foot and bounced up into the waiting hands of the Wildcat player who then ran nearly the entire length of the field to the Falcons 9 yard line.

The Wildcats were unlucky not to score but a fumbled ball was recovered by Falcon’s Blake Kyle. Both teams traded possessions before CV’s Colin Nicol retuned a punt for a TD, Ross Iveson kicked the extra point.

Following some fierce tackling by the Falcons they once again gained possession of the ball. They increased the score when Graeme MacMillan took the reverse handoff and barrelled his way to the endzone.

Falcon’s tally was improved when Colin Nicol intercepted a wayward Wildcat’s pass and carried it towards the endzone for the score. Again Iveson kicked the extra point.

The 2nd half began with the Falcons adding to the score. WR William Winter caught a spiralling pass from QB Orr then raced to the endzone for the 6. On the Falcons next possession RB Jamie Weir put them in good field position following some powerful running.

Winter made it two for the day when he gathered in another Orr pass for a TD. Falcons defence held strong and this strength was rewarded when Scott Findlay intercepted the ball and streaked to the endzone for the TD.

Iveson finished the scoring with the kick. Credit has to go to the Wildcats who fought bravely while the boys played both offence and defence due to their lack of players. Next Sunday Falcons travel to Cambuslang Rugby Club for their next game.
