WILDCATS CLAW THEIR WAY TO FIRST VICTORY
Bannerman
High School Wildcats kicked off the second round of the SAU/Pop
Warner Scotland League with a close hard fought battle against the
Glasgow Tigers.
Both sides came into the game on the back of heavy defeats at Wishaw,
looking to finally get their league campaign off the ground.
In a week that saw the Scotland Central Belt having to cope with
blizzards and sub zero temperatures, both teams only had to contend
with what was heavy soiled playing surface.
And the Wildcats were the first to get of the mark in the first
quarter, when Stephan McArthur scored the first touchdown of the
day.
The score was soon cancelled out by the home side, and a successful
conversion attempt, ensured that the Tigers edged infront by one
point.
The Wildcats regained their lead early in the second quarter when
Stewart Crichton bagged another six points for the visitors, which
was followed up with a successful conversion kick from James Wilson
put them seven points infront.
Things looked promising for the Wildcats when Gary Russe intercepted
a pass, but it had no influence in the scoring during the rest of
the period.
Tigers reduced the deficit early in the third quarter, but a failed
conversion attempt ensured that the Wildcats held onto their lead
by one point.
The
battle continued with John Riley having two sacks, one in the 3rd,
and one later in the 4th with resulted in the QB taken off, favouring
his leg.
The Tigers continued to push for the winning score and was denied
in the dying seconds of the game, when Wilson saved the day for
the visitors with the last tackle of the game, stopping a Tiger
player heading for the End zone.
NOTE: I am sorry that there is not much details in the
match report concerning the Tigers. If they would like to send me
details of their scorers then I will gladly amend the report
