CLANSMEN EDGE OUT GUTSY PYROS

Paisley Pyros 0 Stirling Clansmen 12

Stirling Clansmen kept themselves in the hunt for a play off spot with a hard fought road win over the Paisley Pyros.

For Paisley, the 2005/6 season has been a roller coaster ride of emotions having finally secured their first ever win and the devastating loss of their Head Coach Craig Cunningham.

And with the Clansmen looking to add to last week’s victory over the Napier UE Wolves in order to keep their season alive, the Pyros will be looking to end the season on a high note.

One of the major headaches for the Paisley outfit since their fist season has been the lack of numbers in their line up.

Today the Pyros took to the field with a number of new recruits to their line up, so this had the making of a closely contested affair.

And in the first play of the match, the Clansmen were given a wake up call; when Quarterback, Ben Alkureishi fired a 30 yard pass into the hands of Tal Peer who took the ball into the endzone. But the touchdown was chalked off for a block in the back penalty.

The Clansmen responded when Quarterback Ian Smith fired an 11 yard pass to Receiver, Jon Neilsen for the opening six points.

But there was little evidence of a repeat of the 29 point whitewash by the Clansmen during their previous meeting as both defense turned up the heat, ensuring no change in the score line during the remainder of the first quarter.

Things looked ominous for the Clansmen during the early stages of second quarter, when Quarterback Ian Smith was sidelined for the rest of the game with an ankle injury.

And as the visitors tried to regroup on offense, there were no signs of improvement, when stand in Quarterback, Matt Bywater’s lack of snaps showed as he was nailed by a surging Pyros defense, just outside the two minute warning.
