PYROS PUT TO THE SWORD
Paisley Pyros 0 Stirling Clansmen 34
Stirling Clansmen have emerged as firm contenders for the British College League, Scottish Conference title with and impressive 34 point whitewash over the Paisley Pyros.
Having been edged out by Glasgow Tigers the previous week, hopes were high that the Pyros would finally make home advantage count and get their season off the mark.
But they were up against a new look Clansmen side, under new management, who got their season off to a resounding success last week, hammering Napier Mavericks 56-0.
And after a hard fought first quarter, in what were heavy ground conditions, the breakthrough finally came on the second drive of the second quarter when a well worked faked play saw Canadian Quarterback; Brandon Ulmer broke through a mass of bodies to sprint 55 yards for the opening score.
The Pyros soon found themselves in more trouble on their next drive when Richard Mandille broke two challenges taking the ball all the way to the endzone, which was followed by a successful two point conversion from Ulmer to put the Clansmen, two scores ahead without reply.
The home side tried to regroup and put some pressure on the Clansmen rearguard but their game plan appeared to be falling apart when Ben Alkurieshi was picked off by Victor Peredo.
Minutes later Ulmer scrambled for another impressive gain for the Clansmen, moving the chains to the Paisley 27 yard line.
But some resolute defending from the home guard ensured that Storing were stopped in their tracks, with no further changes to the scoring at half time.
Whilst the Pyros were trying to get psyche themselves up and get back in the match during the break. It was the visitors who were firing on all cylinders at the start of the third quarter when Ulmer launched a long pass to Jonathan Neilson for another impressive six points.
The Pyros were now playing form pride, but their troubles continued when they turned over possession on their next drive, with the ball recovered by the Clansmen, giving them excellent field position.
And they finally killed the game off when
Erick Schlimmer
cut through a gap in the Paisley defense wall to make it 32-0 for the Clansmen, with
Robin White
adding the two point conversion, rounding off another successful day at the office for the visitors.
