TIGERS ROMP HOME AGAIN

Paisley
Pyros 6 Glasgow Tigers 48
Glasgow Tigers moved one step closer to the
perfect regular season with another commanding victory over the
Paisley Pyros.
Having dominated the proceedings during their
last meeting on the Astroturf of Garscube Sports Centre, this was
going to9 be a new challenge for the Tigers away from home.
They were against a Pyros side, who despite not
being the competitive force that they were last year, but were
determined to build on a much welcome first win last week and to end
their regular season on a high.
Compared to previous matches covered this game
was a unique occasion as we were treated to the rare occasion of
having a full refereeing crew in charge of a college game.
And
fair play to them, the presence of an official gang of “zebras”
meant that there was no repeat of the “melee” that occurred during
the opening quarter the last time to the two teams met.
After an uneventful opening drive, the Tigers
soon stamped their authority on the game with a great opening drive
ending with star rookie running back, Lewis King, supported with
some top play from his offensive line, broke through a mass of
bodies for the opening touchdown.
As the quarter progressed, the Pyros rear guard
tried to close the Glasgow attack down, but quarterback Gregor
Beattie held on to the ball and scrambled from 15 yards out for a
second score which was followed up with Lewis Begby running in the
two point conversion to make it 14 unanswered points at the end of
the first period.
Paisley battled hard to get back into the game
at the start of the second quarter but the drive ran out of steam
deep in the Tigers territory, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Tigers regained control when King broke
through the Pyros rear guard for another converted touchdown.
The game appeared to be running away from the
Pyros but the home side dug deep and showed their traditional never
say die qualities putting the Tigers on the back foot following a
terrific kick-off return from French Running Back, Thibaud Gerin
taking the ball deep inside the visitors half.
And inside the two minute warning, quarterback
Gary McNey sent a well-executed lob to
Ryan
McCluskey to open the home sides account.
But the Tigers hit back when King ran in
another six points and picked up a shuffle pass and ran in another
two point conversion.
Paisley’s troubles continued early in the third
quarter when pinned deep in their half, a punt attempt saw a poor
snap result in the ball rolling into the endzone for a two point
safety.
The Pyros had another chance to bring some
respectability to the score when Gerin ran almost ran the full
length of the field all the way to the endzone, but his hard work
was all for nothing as the score was chalked off due to a penalty.

The Tigers drove the final nail in the Pyros
coffin when a screen pass to Rory McAlpine end up as another well
worked touchdown. And
the same receiver pulled in an excellent diving catch for another
two point conversion.
Then during the final stages of the game,
another special team’s breakdown from Paisley saw a Tigers punt
attempt saw the ball bounce off the hands of the Paisley returner
and was downed by the visitors at the Pyros 30 yard line.
Then Dixon- J Cube (yes I did check) blasted
through the gap for the final touchdown, with David Teenan making
the catch for a final two point conversion
