Report C/O Clyde Valley Football

Clyde Valley travelled to Carlisle on Sunday for the return match against the Reivers, the team they beat last week 50-3.

Although the Border side received the ball the Blackhawks defence stamped their mark on the game from the outset when Ryan Redpath stopped Bradley Bushby behind the line of scrimmage on the opening drive forcing the punt.

But the Reviers didn’t let them have it all their own way as after a soild march upfield the Blackhawks fumbled the ball as they were going in for the openingTD and Reivers Paddy Gorrill pounced on the loose ball. With the ball on their own 3 yard line it was never going to be an easy task and Ryan Redpath sacked the QB in the endzone which opened the score for the Blackhawks with a safety.

Soon Phil McCabe added to the score on his first of the day when he sprinted from 11 yards out, Tam Chapman booted over the extra point.
Another fumble by the Reivers, which was recovered by Tam Chapman, lead to Blackhawks next score. Phil McCabe added his second of the day when he took the handoff and scampered 28 yards to the endzone.

This time the extra point kick was no good. Colin Mooney added to the Reivers misery when he sacked the QB forcing them to punt away their possession. Blackhawk’s Gary Orr thought he was going in after gathering in a James Keogh pass but he was downed on the 2 yard line but it only delayed the score for a play when Phil McCabe scored his third of the day after he barrelled over from 2 yards out.

This time Gordon Lockhart made sure of the extra points. Borders next possession did not go to plan as a fumble was jumped upon by Blackhawk's Andy Ferguson. Five plays later the Clyde Vallety side capitalised on the error when Phil McCabe ran in his 4th of the day from 2 yards out, once more Gordon Lockhart made sure of the extra points.

Leading 29-0 at the half Clyde Valley furthered the scoring on the opening possession of the 2nd half when David Orr gathered in a 31 yard pass from James Keogh and ran in for another 6 points. Although the extra point was kick over by Tam Chapman it was called back for a penalty. But Blackhawks made the extra 2 points when holder David Orr threw the ball to the waiting arms of Gary Orr.

Clyde Valley’s next possession added on 6 more when Tam Chapman burst 8 yards up the middle to add to the score, Gordon Lockhart scored the extra point with his boot to add another point.

At the start of the 4th Clyde Valley added another 6 when QB James Keogh tossed the ball 7 yards into the endzone for Scott Frame to gather up. The sure boot of Tam Chapman added the extra point. The strength of the Blackhawks’ defence continued to completely shut down the Reivers.

While the Clyde Valley offence continued to score with Phil McCabe adding his 5th of the day from 27 yards out. The extra point kick sailed wide right. The Blackhawks defence continued to dominate and when the Borders outfit stalled on their next drive deep in their own half their ensuing punt was blocked by Gary Orr who collected the ball and scampered in from 4 yards out.  Gordon Lockhart rounded off the scoring with the kicked extra point.

Tribute has to be given to the Border Reivers who never gave up till the final whistle. Clyde Valley’s MVP was awarded to Ryan Redpath. Blackhawks would like to thanks sponsors, The Commercial Hotel in Wishaw, William Grant and Sons and Chapman’s the Butchers, as well as all the travelling supporters
